How do I apply for ARC Accreditation?

  • Form 100 General Information will provide you a guideline and basic information about becoming an ARC accredited agent.  You can print the form on the Internet: our address is http://www.arccorp.com.  You can also request a New Independent Entity Kit online. Here are additional frequently asked questions concerning the ARC accreditation process:

  • Question: What is the difference between ARC and IATAN?
    • ARC provides accredited agents with ARC ticket stock and the agent reports ticket sales to ARC.  We then draft the agent's bank account for the amount specified on the report and settle the financial transaction.
    • IATAN (International Airlines Travel Agent Network) endorses travel agents and provides the IATAN ID card which identifies you as a US based travel sales professional. For more information about IATAN, visit http://www.iatan.org

  • Question: How do I get a New Independent Entity application (form 410)?

  • Question: I need to update my ARC database, can I fax over my application to the section?
    • No, fax copies are not acceptable.  Overnight the application using a form of express mail to the attention of the designated individual is more practical.  It should also include a cover sheet and an explanation for wanting the change expedited.

  • Question: How long does it take to receive an application kit from form 100?
    • The application kit contains 2 parts; Instructions and the application form (form 410) with the enclosed TravelBUYARC pamphlet, control letter (receipt).  This should be received within 7-10 working days.

  • Question: Do I need the Bond/Letter of Credit before I apply?
    • The Bond/Letter of Credit is not needed before you apply.  However, the application will not be considered complete and/or approved until the original instrument is received.

  • Question: What experienced personnel are needed?
    • The manager of the agency must have two years travel experience any time during past employment.  The CAS certified personnel is mandatory for all new agents as well as new branch locations (including on-sites), and type II and V ownership changes, seeking ARC approval on or after July 1, 1999.

  • Question: How do I become a CAS Qualifier?
    • You must pass the CAS exam.  Read more about CAS training and examination.  After passing the exam, you must then submit your Personal History Form (form 682) to ARC's accreditation department for verification and approval.  Once approved, you may qualify ONE agency location.  If you move to another location, you must apply to qualify that new location.

  • Question: How does the application process work?
    • Once the application is received, the agency will receive a letter stating that the application is at ARC.  In between two-three weeks, the agency will receive a status letter stating that the application is complete, incomplete, contingent, or returned.  If the application is incomplete or complete, it will be sent out for inspection.  If the application is contingent or returned, the inspection will not be sent out until the minimum of an incomplete status is reached.  The agent should hear from the inspector around 4 weeks after the status letter is received.  After the inspection, ARC will inform the applicant if a decision is made or more information is needed before the 90th day of the completed application. (average of three/four weeks)

  • Question: What are the security requirements?
    • The security requirements for both the independent and the branch locations are located in Section 80, Attachment B of the ARA.

  • Question: Can I share premises with another travel agency?
    • As long as the other travel agency is ARC approved, the proposed agency does not have to meet the requirements in Section 80 for sharing premises with another business with different ownership.  However, the agency must have a separate CAS and on/off premise storage containers.

  • Question: I am waiting to be inspected.  How long does it take?
    • The inspector should be in contact with the agency around 3-4 weeks after the receipt of a complete/incomplete status letter.

  • Question: Can I have my agency in my home?
    • Yes, a travel agency can be located in a private residence.  However, the agency must meet all the security requirements of Section 80 of the ARA.  The location must also meet all of the requirements of the local jurisdiction.
